Southern Gospel Music Association

of Texas

About Us

The Southern Gospel Music Association (SGMA) of Texas was formed in 1972 by Calvin Wills, J. Howard Rogers and others to provide singers, musicians, music publishers, promoters, songwriters, recording companies and radio stations an opportunity to join forces to build a strong foundation for gospel music in the Metroplex and outer areas. The SGMA of Texas has provided assistance to local performers through information, networking opportunities and performance events and provided listeners with opportunities to enjoy a "good ol' gospel singing".

The organization's annual convention keeps the music alive in various areas as it travels from city to city. The Texas cities of Weatherford, Stephenville, Paris, Sherman, Amarillo, Irving, Lubbock, Arlington, Gainesville, Garland, Tyler, Nacogdoches, Beaumont, Carrollton, Mount Pleasant, Abilene, Waco, and Odessa have all benefited from the building of local gospel music events by the SGMA of Texas.

The SGMA of Texas has always emphasized preservation of gospel music and education by its presentation of music schools and seminars pertaining to the gospel music field. The annual convention is held in Paris, Texas on the last Friday and Saturday of September at the Love Civic Center.
